Our beloved Lebanese flag. So mistreated over its lifetime. The symbol of our pride and independence, but also that of our unstable existence and stolen dreams. Every bullet hole represents a hole in our immigrant hearts. A hole for having to leave home in the hope of finding a country that accepts us as her own. A hole for being the lost generation and never really belonging to any one place any more, yet constantly having to prove we do. A hole for leaving behind loved ones, seeing them grow old without us and growing old without them. A hole for seeing our kids grow without the memories of a place whose fingerprint is engrained in our DNA and whose love runs deepest in our veins. Has the time finally come to mend those holes, for the children of Lebanon to turn their eyes towards it and not away from it? I pray to God it is...
